Upon screening the film, the Studio felt it could be improved, shot additional scenes and re-edited it. Welles viewed this new version and within hours wrote passionate 58-page memo requesting editorial changes. This version represents an attempt to honor those requests and make 'Touch of evil' the film Orson Welles envisioned it to be." -- Theatrical version (96 min.) This version was seen by U.S. audiences when it was released in theaters in 1958. -- Preview version (109 min.) Created prior to the theatrical version, this cut of the film incorporates some of Orson Welles' requests and was re-discovered by Universal in 1976..

Description
When a car bomb explodes on the American side of the U.S./Mexico border, Mexican drug enforcement agent Miguel Vargas begins his investigation, along with American police captain Hank Quinlan. When Vargas begins to suspect that Quinlan and his shady partner, Menzies, are planting evidence to frame an innocent man, his investigations into their possible corruption quickly put himself and his new bride, Susie, in jeopardy.
